About the Recipe

When I hear the word “gravy” I immediately think of classic biscuits and gravy. This homemade sausage gravy recipe is rich in flavor and is so creamy and delicious it is irresistible. Once you try this biscuits and gravy recipe you will not be able to stop eating it. It’s all about the gravy!!!

Ingredients

  • 1lb or 500g ground sausage

  • 2 tbsp or 57g bacon grease

  • 1/3 cup or 57g flour

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 2 cups heavy cream

  • 1/4 tsp or 1g ham concentrate

  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

  • 1 tsp black pepper

Preparation

1.Add the ground sausage to a skillet over medium to high heat. Break the sausage up with a flat bottom spatula into small pieces and sauté until completely cooked.


2.Make a well into the center of the pan add the bacon grease. Once the grease has melted, sprinkle the flour evenly over the sausage and stir it in and cook for 2 to 5 minutes over medium heat.


3.Pour the milk into the skillet and mix it with the sausage mixture, cook until it becomes thick and then add 1 cup or 250ml heavy cream and stir it in.


4.Add a packet of ham concentrate and red pepper flakes and stir it into the gravy. Once the gravy becomes thick, add another 1 cup or 250ml heavy cream.


5.Add black pepper and reduce over medium to low heat until the gravy becomes thick.
